This variation is a virtuosic two-part toccata in 3/4 time. Specified for two manuals, it involves rapid hand-crossing.
Since all the Goldberg Variations are built on the same bass notes, I used the repeats to highlight the structure.
This music contains a lot of energy and joy, which are especially expressed with the very rapid passages where the melody raises.
In the second part of this variation, there are spectacular crossings: in fractions of seconds, the right hand plays first above the left hand, and then below.
