CategoryBach at my side, Goldberg Variations
This is a virtuosic two-part toccata in 12/16 time. Specified for two manuals, it is largely made up of various scale passages, arpeggios and trills, and features much hand-crossing of different kinds, which are very difficult to perform on the piano.
For instance, some notes are supposed to be sustained, but this is impossible, because the other hand has to play them right away. For this reason, one should leave these notes right after playing them with the right hand, then he should play the same notes with the left hand and an instant later press the same keys again with the right hand, in order to keep the sound.
